How do I get a freeserve account without using the Dixons CD-ROM

Okay folks, here is how to get on to Dixon's
Freeserve using Windows 95, assuming you already have one ISP, or at least dial-up networking enabled and a web browser installed.

  1. Go into Dixons and pick up their CD (optional step)
  2. If step one completed, throw CD away (required step)
  3. Go to dial-up networking (which must be installed from the Windows 95 CD if not already present) and select a new connection.
  4. Do whatever you have to in order to configure a modem (if you haven't already)
  5. For the new connection, enter a 'phone number of 0845 0796699 and a user name of 'freeservesignup'. The password is 'signup'
  6. Go on line using this new service.
  7. Start your web browser and point it to ""https://signup.freeserve.net". Note the https!
  8. Follow the instructions!

You won't be able to sign up by going to the URL from any other ISP - a firewall prevents you.
